Sea and Sand at Scarbourough

North Bay of Scarborough 

We had a lovely few days at the English seaside town of Scarborough last week.  Scarborough is on the north eastern coast of England, on the North Sea.  It was very striking--rugged cliffs and a ruined castle.  The weather was mostly cloudy and chilly, but there was sea and sand, so the kids were happy digging and splashing, and we had some quiet, relaxing time to spend as a family.  Here are some pictures from our visit to the English sea shore!

In reading in an English newspaper about Scarborough, we learned that "Candy Floss" or cotton candy, was invented in Nashville, Tennessee!!  

The South Bay of Scarborough is a little like an English Gatlinburg--lots of lights and entertainment, junk food and fun!

Small world--we ran into Frances, one of the Methodist ministers who served on the circuit with Wade!

We drove to Robin Hood's Bay, a small village nestled in the side of a cliff--it's so steep and small that you have to park on the top of the cliff and walk down!  It was very beautiful and quaint.

We happened upon a busy, cozy, pub and landed a table with a sea view!  Great food, too!  We found out that there is a coast-to-coast walk in England which ends in this village.  192 miles--who's ready?

After our very relaxing days in Scarborough, we are now in Paris!  It is a stunning city, and we have seen so much--the Seine, the Notre Dame, the Musees d'Orsay, de l'Orangerie, and Rodin, climbed to the top of the Arc de Triomphe and the second floor of the Tour Eiffel. (We needed to burn off some of that pain au chocolate!) It is fabulous!  I will upload pictures soon-it's been hard to find time!  We do look forward to being home.  Thank you for sharing our journey with us!  We have truly been blessed.
